What’s involved

What’s involved in a termite inspection

A termite inspection is a thorough assessment of your home and surrounding grounds for live termite activity, evidence of past damage, and site conditions that increase risk. Every Grove inspection follows AS 3660.2 and covers all accessible areas of your home.

Detect

Advanced radar, thermal imaging and moisture technology, including Termatrac, is used to assess your property for concealed termite activity and moisture conditions that visual checks alone can miss.

What we check

Interior walls, wet areas, skirting boards, door and window frames, roof void timbers, subfloor where accessible, the full external perimeter, garden beds, retaining walls, stored timber, trees, stumps and outbuildings.

Act

If live termite activity is found, we explain the extent and location, assess the risk to the structure, and present your treatment options clearly. There’s no pressure to decide on the spot.

Your report

You receive a detailed digital report covering documented findings, photographic evidence, risk areas and clear recommendations prioritised by urgency, delivered within 24 hours.

After the inspection

What happens after your inspection

Your report sets out exactly where things stand and what, if anything, needs attention next.

No issues found

You receive your report along with a recommendation to inspect again in 12 months.

Risk conditions identified

Your report highlights specific conditions that increase termite risk, such as moisture problems, soil contact or stored timber against the structure, with recommendations prioritised by risk.

Existing system needs attention

If your reticulation system or bait stations need servicing, we can quote that work directly.

Active termites detected

We explain the situation clearly, assess the risk, and present your treatment options, which may include colony treatment followed by a retrofit barrier installation to prevent re-entry.

Your home hasn’t been inspected in over a year

Termite activity can establish and cause significant damage within months. Australian Standards recommend annual inspections for all homes, catching early signs before they become structural problems.

Your property is in a high-risk area

Parts of western Sydney, the Hills District, the Blue Mountains and bushland-adjacent suburbs carry higher termite pressure due to soil type, vegetation and moisture levels.

You’ve had a wet season or prolonged moisture

Heavy rain, poor drainage, leaking pipes or a wet winter all create the conditions termites seek out. Increased moisture around or under your home raises your risk and warrants a closer look.

You’ve noticed something concerning

Hollow-sounding timber, mud trails on walls or foundations, discarded wings near windows, or unexplained moisture patches are all worth having checked.

Prefer everything in one plan?

Include inspections in a protection plan

Most homeowners bundle their annual inspection into a plan, so it’s scheduled, documented and handled alongside their other termite and pest cover.

Questions

Termite inspections, answered

How often should I get a termite inspection?

Australian Standards recommend annual termite inspections for all homes. Some properties in high-risk areas or with a known history of termite activity may benefit from more frequent inspections. If your home hasn’t been inspected in over 12 months, it’s worth scheduling one.

Do I need an inspection if I already have a termite barrier?

Yes. A barrier manages the soil or perimeter around your home. An inspection checks the home itself for signs of activity, changes in risk conditions, and anything that could compromise your protection. The barrier and the inspection serve different purposes and work together.

What areas of the home are inspected?

All accessible areas: interior timbers, wet areas, skirting boards, door and window frames, roof void, subfloor where accessible, the full external perimeter, garden beds, retaining walls, fencing, trees, stumps and outbuildings. We also assess drainage, ventilation and site conditions that increase termite risk.

What equipment do you use?

We use advanced radar detection, thermal imaging and moisture meters, including Termatrac technology. These tools detect concealed termite activity and moisture conditions behind walls and surfaces without drilling or cutting into anything.

How long does an inspection take?

A standard home inspection typically takes 1 to 2 hours depending on the property size, accessibility and complexity. Larger homes or properties with extensive landscaping, subfloor areas or outbuildings may take longer.

What happens if you find termites?

We explain the extent and location of the activity, assess the risk to the structure, and present your treatment options clearly. There’s no pressure into same-day decisions. Your report documents everything, and we’re available to answer questions once you’ve had time to consider your options.

Can I use the inspection report for a property sale?

Our standard termite inspection is conducted to AS 3660.2 and is a thorough assessment of your property’s current condition, ideal for your own records and ongoing management. Property sales typically require a pre-purchase inspection report conducted to AS 4349.3, which has specific scope and documentation requirements. Contact us to arrange one separately.

Is a termite inspection covered by home insurance?

No. Home insurance in Australia does not cover termite damage or termite inspections. This is one of the reasons annual inspections are so important. Detecting activity early is significantly less costly than repairing structural damage after the fact.
